Others gave and now Cadia has taken away.
While LEV (Local exhaust and ventilation) is now on everyones radar, little thought is still given to the number one method of contamination amongst goldroom employees in environments – inhaled dusts.
Almost every metal has an allowable occupational exposure limit (OEL), including silver, and yet goldrooms designed in the 80’s, 90’s and engineered over the last 20 years by following cookie cutting existing legacy designs, continue to replicate the same mistakes.
Engineers fail to stop – or have the lack of experience – to engineer and address the issues inherent almost universally in goldroms. One of which is the amount of metal dusts over all surfaces of the goldrooms, how they got there, and the risks these pose to employees.
Because Cadia Systems is born out of direct design and first hand commissioning experience, we have employed our prior Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) concepts from pharmaceutical manufacturing to provide some aspects of cleanroom technologies to the goldroom environment.
Our EC series Clean-in-Place Electrowinning cells and FEMS extraction technology with Ammonia dispersion are all examples of this philosophy applied.
Now Cadia removes the need to hand mix in wheel barrows fluxes and gold bearing sludges which may or may not contain additional toxic metals such as arsenic, lead and mercury which are commonly inhaled during the blending and lead to trace blood exposure levels exceeding occupational exposure limits.
She may look odd, but new technology often does. The FMX flux mixer is designed to allow removal of the 100L mixing pot from the main unit allowing it to be transported to the loading table where the sludge and fluxes can be carefully added under extraction hood environment. Once filled it is repositioned back to the FMX mixing unit and blended using internal paddles and rotation.
Using the same multi-purpose lifter as the BAX crucible lifter, the pot can be relocated above the BAX furnace and directly loaded into the crucible.
No more hand scoop loading of the furnace or making of ‘bomb’s – just safe secure relocation of sludges directly to the smelt.
